How do you silence an inline fan? 420 Guide

Where Does The Noise Come From?
Despite most of the latest grow equipment being designed with stealth in mind, it still does not prevent a serious reverberation occurring. If you are growing Cannabis in a public building, then you are running of the risk of causing noise pollution, which you may not even know you are doing.

Vibrations travel through floor boards, up and down walls and will resonate with the nearby surroundings. Hoping the neighbours won’t pick up on the fact every 12 or 18 hours the walls shake. Controlling the amount your equipment vibrates will dramatically reduce any third party noise coming from your grow room.

Buy A soundproof grow tent
A soundproof marijuana grow tent is an ideal option for those who have the extra funds for the initial purchase. They can come in a wide range of sizes to suit just about any need or space and are completely silent even when standing next to them.

USE INSULATED DUCTING
The insulated ducting is a great solution. The fan itself can be contained in a box made of soundboard, or maybe look at Dynamat(sound-deadening foil-tape type stuff).

ADD A MUFFLER TO YOUR EXHAUST DUCT
One of the biggest sources of noise from your grow-op can be the main exhaust duct. To combat this, it is possible to make a very effective DIY muffler for little money. Growers have built this muffler from commonly available parts and it can completely silence airflow! It is easy to make and takes very little time.

Suspend your vent fan with bungee cords in an enclosed box
In order to prevent vibrations the fan creates from going through the ground, walls or ceilings, it shouldn’t directly touch any of these surfaces. Enclosing the fan in a wooden box and suspending it from the ceiling with bungee cords does not allow any vibrations to travel beyond the enclosure.

How to use rockwool in hydroponics? 420 Guide for Beginners

Although growing hydroponically is soil-free, this doesn’t mean that there is nothing to support our plants.

In most hydroponic systems, growers use different types of hydroponic media to help support their roots and maintain a good water/oxygen ratio.

Growing in Rockwool: Tips from the Pros

Rockwool, also known as stone wool or mineral wool, is the most widely used substrate for the commercial production of hydroponic tomatoes. It is also a great tool for smaller growers who can benefit just as much from its use in a range of different systems and situations. While rockwool is relatively easy to set up and use, it does require some monitoring and irrigation adjustment to make the best of its ability to hold high levels of moisture and aeration at the same time.

Adjusting the pH Level
Depending on the brand of best rockwool cubes you purchase, the following instructions may vary. Adjust the pH of the water to 5.5 using pH down or lemon water if you have that on hand. Test and adjust pH as needed using a pH kit or meter. Soak the rockwool until the medium is fully saturated. Do not squeeze the block because the material has been designed for an optimal air/water ratio for horticulture purposes.

Planting the Seeds
Once your water is pH balanced, add your cubes and let them soak for about an hour, or until thoroughly wet.

Once your rockwool cubes are soaked, you’re ready to plant.  A smart tip for seed placement is to wet the tip of a toothpick and “pick up” one seed with the wet end. Place the seed at the bottom of the hole while gently pressing it to one side. If you are planting two seeds, press the second seed to the opposite side of the bottom of the hole.  Place your seeded rockwool cubes in a tray, and cover with the humidity dome to lock in moisture. You won’t have to mess with your cubes over the next 2-3 days.

Seeds that are grown in rockwool typically germinate fastest in a room temperature of 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the rockwool cube in a well-lit area or beneath a grow light for weed.

Add Your Vermiculite
Time to cover the seeds up with vermiculite. Just use a small pinch and sprinkle the vermiculite into each of the holes where your seeds are. Make sure you moisten the vermiculite to help it settle.

Set rockwool cubes on top of growing media. Cover nursery tray with a humidity dome to lock in moisture. Maintain close to 80°. Crack humidity dome when roots begin to emerge, gradually increasing the day after. Remove the humidity dome a couple of days after roots first appear. Transplant when roots begin to poke out the bottom of the cubes.

Are grow tents smell proof?

One issue which many people have with growing weed, and with people who grow weed, is the smell which the marijuana plant produces. If you have ever grown cannabis before, you know exactly what we are talking about. Sure, to use enthusiasts there is no better smell, but there are people who do not approve in the least.

Making your marijuana grow tent smell-proof is something that has become quite a major thing for modern-day growers as some of them might be growing weed in places where either marijuana is completely illegal, or growing weed is illegal. Meanwhile, there might be other growers who might be growing their marijuana in regions where it might have been legal but continues to be a social stigma and hence they don’t want people knowing that they are growing weed in their house.

How Do I Control the Smell In My Grow Room?
Yes, it’s tough work to hide the smell of your marijuana growing kits, especially when a flowering plant nears the harvest season. Being able to create an enclosed air space where the smell won’t escape is usually a daunting task.

The main reason behind such an occurrence is that plant pots require ventilation, for photosynthesis. Thus, the old air has to get out, as new air comes in, with humidity, and to provide temperature control benefits.

Carbon Filter/Scrubber (Scrub odors from air)
Carbon Filters & Carbon Scrubbers - the #1 way to get rid of smells in the grow roomThese are hands-down the best option for controlling marijuana grow room odors. Carbon filters (also called ‘carbon scrubbers’) will actually pull the smells out of the air, neutralizing any odors that pass through.

Carbon filters for grow tent are what you need if it’s important to neutralize the air coming out of your exhaust. A good carbon filter will make sure you never accidentally leak the smell of cannabis out through a window into your neighborhood.

Odor Absorbing Gels May Help
Odor becomes much more difficult to manage in the final six weeks of a cannabis plant’s lifecycle. This is the stage where trichomes are producing their highest concentration of terpenes, and your garden is certainly going to try to show them off to you (and perhaps to your neighbors). Air circulation and ventilation aside, there comes a time when all of the air in your living space will contain traces of your garden’s fresh floral smell.

Grow tents Reduce Pests
Indoor grow tents have a major advantage because they have the ability to rid your crops of pests that are known to infest gardens. Some of the pests that love gardens and that grow tents helps in reducing are whiteflies, aphids, and spider mites. The grow tents’ enclosed design helps keep these pests away. Though there are always chances of having one or two bugs finding their way into your indoor garden, the infestation is certainly very low and really spaced when you use grow tents.

Will CMH Grow Light Produce Better Quality Buds than COB LED Grow Light?

What is CMH Grow Light?
The crux of the matter; what are LEC lights and why are they sometimes called ceramic metal halide (CMH) or ceramic discharge metal halide (CDM)? Thankfully, all terms mean the same thing, and as awareness of the technology increases, these terms are becoming interchangeable. An LEC light uses a ceramic arc tube, rather than the quartz version found in regular MH lights. The result is a more natural colour, producing more lumens per watt and lasting a lot longer. The most common model of LEC fixture is the 315W with a “4200K” colour bulb.

What is a COB LED?
A COB (short for Chip-on-Board), is an LED packaging technology that describes mounting multiple LED chips directly onto a substrate to form a single module. Multiple LEDs, minuscule in size, are wired and packaged together into a single ceramic or copper board so that they function as a sole light source.

When a COB LED grow light is energized, it appears more like a lighting panel than multiple individual lights as usually the case with other LED packages, like when using several SMD LEDs mounted closely together.

Pros of CMH Grow Lights

  • LECs last on average twice as long as MH or HPS bulbs.
  • LECs, because of the ceramic element, burn much hotter than MH, producing a light closer to that of natural sunlight. Due to their insulating value though, they also have a lower heat output, which means there is less likelihood of burning plant leaves as compared to MH or HPS bulbs.
  • LECs can produce light spectrum sufficient to support both the vegetative stage of plant growth as well as its flowering stage.
Cons of CMH Grow Lights

  • Heat Generation: I know this is also listed as an advantage above. Quality CMH grow lights emit much less heat than HPS or MH, but still more than LED.
  • Flowering: CMH grow lights are very good at flowering, especially those with a warmer color spectrum (around 3000K), like the Philips 3100K bulb we recommend.
Pros of COB LED lights
  • These lights have more number of diodes as compare to SMD lights. Hence from a small amount of energy or watt it generates higher amount of energy.
  • Since these lights can produce higher amount of light from smaller space, these lights are efficiently used in flash lights of a camera or mobile phone
  • These lights generate higher lumen lights in less watt. Also, the heat generation is very less as compared to other lights. This aspect makes it very appropriate for indoor plantation as it would not require separate cooling agents.
Cons of COB LED lights
  • These lights do not emit different colours as compared to SMD lights. It output comes in a single colour. Hence, chip on board LED lights cannot be used as colour changing bulbs like SMD lights.

How Far Should T5 Grow Lights Be From for Seedlings?

Should you start seedlings with natural light or grow lights?

Natural sunlight is a mix of all wavelengths, from those that plants can use to those that are of no use at all. Whilst plants have thrived under natural light for millions of years, our scientific understanding of how plants respond to varying wavelengths and color spectrums has resulted in the production of specific synthetic horticultural grow lighting.

These synthetic grow lights have been carefully engineered to transmit the specific wavelengths plants respond best to during the different phases of their growth cycle. For example, a blue spectrum grow light will help boost vegetative growth. This is where fluorescent grow lights come in to play.

T5 fluorescent grow lights are one of the best types of lights you can use to grow any kind of plant, from vegetables to the most delicate flowers. This is because T5s are extremely efficient, allowing you to save money on electricity while still providing bright, powerful light. They also have features you can customize to build the perfect set-up for any size and type of indoor garden.

Many indoor growers are already familiar with the virtues of T5s, but even if you know your T5 fixtures and more or less know how they work, you might need help with some things, because specifics like color temperature, hanging height and light cycles might not be as easy to figure out.

T5 Grow Light: Distance From Plants

Hang T5 fluorescent fixtures on chains 6 to 12 inches above the top of the plants, making them adjustable and allowing the light to be raised as the plant grows. Use reflectors and mirrors above and beside lights to reflect light back on the plant.

Fluorescent lights don’t get nearly as hot as other types of lighting, so you can get them extremely close. In fact, as long as they are not touching the plants, you should be fine (with mature plants).

The T5 fluorescent grow light distance for seedlings should be a bit further away.

I’d start by hanging the light 6 to 10 inches from seedlings. Use the same distances whether you are using a large T5 fixture or just a regular fluorescent light bulb.

How to set up dabpress 6 ton rosin press machine?

Dabpress 6 Ton Rosin Press

6 Ton Personal Rosin Press - 3x5" Heated Platens & Replaceable Bottle Jack Included - 500 Watts | Dabpress

  • ACCURATE AND EVENLY TEMP DELIVERED - Anodized food-grade working surface ensures easy washing; independent heating rods & thermocouple for an accurate temperature delivered & detected.
  • GREAT HEAT INSULATION PERFORMANCE - Dual insulation layers allow the heat press plates to achieve 200 F in 4-5 minutes to protect the machine from heat-draining.
  • IDEAL PRESSURE FOR 3.5-14g MATERIALS - 6 ton (Max 12000 lbs force) hydraulic bottle jack to deliver optimal pressure for flower extractopm; 2x3, 2x4,2.5x4.5 inch bag are the suggested bags for use.
  • EASILY REBUILD INTO NEW PRESS - Procure a new heat press machine by removing heat platens and PID temp controller box off the unit, and pair it with 10 - 20 ton hydraulic press.

When you pre-press so hard and then smash it down before it has time to heat up you will affect yield and quality. Try to pre-press less and don't go full pressure right away. Try 50% for 30 seconds, then 75% for 30, then max for 1 - 1.5 min. This will help give the cellulose and THC time to melt before you smash the crap out of it.

Also, old bud/hash will often be very difficult to work with. Either way too glassy and shatter all over the place (mostly your face and arms) or it'll be super sappy and almost stick to the paper even after cooling. It's ok to practice with though but maybe consider making dry sift or bubble hash with it and then press that.

Regarding the pressure applied, it is not hard to get a feel for it. Usually, you will apply pressure on the jack until begin to see oil flowing, then you continue to slowly apply the pressure until either a) the color of the oil darkens considerably or b) the jack is now tight and applying further pressure requires a lot of effort.

Using a rosin press has never been easier due to many advancements in the industry, but finding the best rosin press can be difficult with the growing number of rosin presses being manufactured across the globe.

Just a few years ago a DIY rosin press was about the only option because of cost and lack of competition in the market. After legalization in many states, the demand for the best rosin press grew, lowering prices and upping quality not only for commercial rosin presses but for everything from hybrid rosin presses to portable rosin presses. But now, with so many choices picking the proper rosin press machines for your needs can be overwhelming.

What are the pros and cons of running a 315W CMH grow light compared to regular HID grow light?

It seems that with each passing day, a new technology or piece of equipment arrives on the cannabis scene promising better yields or reduced cost. Like all things in life, those kind of statements are easy to say, but hard to back up. If, however, cost-effective growing environments sound like an appealing topic, CMH grow lights could be the next step in future-fit lighting solutions.

What is a Ceramic Metal Halide Grow Light?
First of all, what are these lights actually called? Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH)? Light Emitting Ceramic (LEC)? Or are they Ceramic Discharge Metal Halide (CDM)?

The truth is that all those different names are talking about the same Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH) technology. LEC is actually a trademarked term for a CMH brand. In order to avoid confusion, I’m going to be using CMH in this article, which is the most common term.

Ceramic Metal Halide grow lights are basically a variation of MH grow lights with a little of HPS added into the mixture. A CMH uses a ceramic arc tube similar to those used in HPS grow lights instead of the quartz used in traditional metal halide grow lights.

Advantages Of CMH Light

Spectrum
The CMH light spectrum combines the red-heavy HPS spectrum with the blue-heavy MH spectrum in one bulb, making it the perfect light for all stages of growth. With a high CRI, it is extremely close to natural sunlight, which is great for your plants and for your eyes (plants look more natural, making it easier to spot any discolorations or other issues).

Better PAR Efficiency
One of the reasons many growers are switching to CMH grow lights is due their excellent PAR efficiency, which is much better than that of many other types of grow lights. Other grow light models such as MH and HPS waste too much energy, which does not help with crop growth.

Heat Consumption
Despite running at high temperatures, CMH grow lights produce less heat compared to many other grow light models in the market. The bulbs of the grow lights do not burn the leaves of the crops and it is one of the best options to use in a grow room or a GROW TENT for a good yield from efficient growth.

Disadvantages Of CMH Light

Like everything else, there’s not a perfect lighting solution. Thus, the CMH also comes with its own disadvantages. The UVB rays that these lights produce are said to be harmful to humans. Adequate safety equipment may be necessary in order to reduce any damage to eyes or skin. Currently, the high setup cost of the CMH can also be seen as a downside.

Since the CMH technology is still new, it costs so much more than the traditional bulbs, such as the CFL, although this is somewhat seen as a double-edged sword. While the initial cost may be high, its long-term running cost is close to that of LED grow light or HPS grow light.

The hottest technology in energy efficient HID lighting is now available. Ceramic Metal Halide, or CMH for short (some refer to it as CMH), is becoming more popular in the horticultural industry.

The CMH lamps have a very broad light spectrum which is more similar to the sun itself than any other form of HID lamp. We have taken CMH technology and increased its operational efficiency, making the most comprehensive spectrum of light output for an HID fixture even better. The CMH lamps also have increased efficiency in AR/Watt compared to other forms of HID grow light.

The CMH fixture can be used as a primary veg light; a primary light for SOG applications; or a supplemental full spectrum light for large flowering operations.

How long do T5 grow bulbs last? 2020 Indoor Grow Guides

If you’re sick of putting your seedlings in a windowsill that doesn’t get much sun, or you just want to super-charge your indoor gardening process, you should consider a T5 grow light. Your seedlings, herbs, and greens will respond immediately to the increased amount of light you’re giving them.

A good rule of thumb as to when you should change your T5 grow bulbs is when they start losing their efficiency or when they start to appear dimmed because in this case if you continue to use these bulbs you will be paying the same amount of money for electricity but you will get less powerful light that won’t be as useful to your plants and they will grow slower.

Factors that Affect Bulb Life
Photo Period: This is the length of time a bulb is running each day. For example, a bulb running for 12 hours per day should be replaced more often than a bulb that operates 8 hours per day.
Heat/Cooling: Generally, the hotter the installation, the shorter the bulb life.
Ballast: Programmed-start ballast designed specifically for high-output fluorescent bulbs typically provide better bulb life than instant-start ballasts and other types of fluorescent ballasts. This is because programmed start ballasts are easier on high-out T5 bulbs during start-up.

In conclusion, if you want to save money and really exchange bulbs only when their output has become less efficient they you should change T5 at 18 months. For a check, install a new bulb and compare it to the old one.

How long to press rosin? 2020 Updated

How does a rosin press work?

Essentially a rosin press machine is anything that uses heat and pressure to extract terpenes and cannabinoids. Typically, it has two rectangular hot plates, between which the starting material (flower, kief, trim, etc.) is heated and pressed. Between the plates and the cannabis there is also usually either waxless parchment paper or a filter bag.

What Temperature Should I Press My Rosin at?
When it comes to pressing your own rosin, choosing which temperature is best to extract with may be the most widely debated variable in the rosin community. The first step to selecting the right temperature to perform your rosin extraction will depend on your starting material. Dried flowers generally yield the best results when pressed between 180-220F. Lower temperature extractions frequently result in a more stable consistency, such as "budder" "crumble" or "batter," while pressing at the higher end of the temperature spectrum may result in "sap" "shatter" or "taffy."

How Long To Press Kief (Dry Sift) or Hash?
Start with a pressing time of 65 seconds at 180° F and adjust from there.
As mentioned, since you are decreasing the temperatures for hash and dry sift, you want to increase the pressing time.

The Rosin technique
When we press rosin, the idea is to get as much resin out of the starting material as quickly as we can, and at as low a temperature as possible. This is because heat naturally reduces quality, evaporating volatile terpenes and oxidising cannabinoids. We should be aiming to extract all of the rosin in the first press, rather than having to repress the material for a second time, with inevitably leads to a decrease in quality, producing darker coloured resin with a lower content in terpenes.

Is a grow light considered direct sunlight? 2020 Updated

You can successfully grow plants under artificial light indoors, but it's important to get your setup right. Light consists of several different wavelengths, each of which produces its own color. These colors are what you see when you run light through a prism to create a rainbow. Sunlight is rich in red and blue hues, both of which are extremely important to plant growth.

Unfortunately, many artificial light sources produce more of the green and yellow wavelengths, which provide very little energy for plants. Others emit red or blue light but not both. When growing plants indoors, you must understand not only what parts of the light spectrum you are provided but also how much heat. The same is true of sunlight, which can provide the right light but may bake indoor plants when too intense.

So how much light does my specific plant need?
In general, plants that flower needs at least 12-16 hours a day. Plants also need darkness (like Vampires, they start to work at night!), a lot of plant flowering and growth is triggered by the changes in daylight hours, some plants will start flowering when the number of daylight hours drops (i.e. more darkness…winter is coming). To keep your standard plant alive make sure your plants get at least 8 hours of darkness a day.

Benefits of Choosing a Full-Spectrum LED Grow Light
There are various types of lights that you could use for growing indoor marijuana. Most people use lamps and HPS grow lights. Well, it is not wrong but, what if you could get a much better yield and that too in an energy-efficient manner.

The cannabis grows the best in natural sunlight. The plant actually needs a lot of light to grow in good density.

In order to produce the best yield, it is necessary that you provide your plant a natural environment. Full spectrum LED grow lights are changing the way of growing cannabis indoors. They mimic real sunlight and thus, have proved to be much better than the HID/HPS and fluorescent lights.

How many lumens for 315W CMH Grow Light? Guide 2020

Ceramic metal-halide bulbs are the grow lights of the future. But before we get to the pros and cons of LEC (Light Emitting Ceramic) lights, I just want to cut to the chase and give you our picks for the best CMH system.

What is a CMH Grow Light?
CMH grow lights operate a lot like a regular metal halide (MH) grow light except instead of using quartz they use a ceramic arc tube, very similar to what’s used in HPS grow lights. This is why they’re often called “ceramic metal halides,” and they have some distinct advantages! Compared to regular MH bulbs, CMH lights give off a more natural color, produce more light per watt, and last longer.

Advantages of CMH grow lights
Broad spectrum
This is the first winning point of CMH over HPS grow light. CMH bulbs have much a wider and more consistent spectrum.

So besides having enough light intensity, plants also love to have sufficient light colors/quality to have their best growth potential.

More UV rays
Under high pressure, CMH bulbs can produce powerful light output that contains Ultraviolets (UV) like the sun.

These UVs include UV-A, UV-B, UV-C, especially UV-B which is really helpful for plant growth, overall all 3 types of UV are harmful to human eyes.

Different brands of CMH grow lights have different lumens. Generally the lumen per watt is about 110.

How much electricity does 1000 watt LED grow light use? 2020 Updated

What is the wattage [watts]?
The amount of power/energy consumed by light is measured in watts or wattage that indicates energy per unit time.

For example, A 50W light bulb uses energy equal to 50-watt-hours (W·h), or 180 kJ in one hour. A 100-watt light bulb would use an equal amount of energy within a half hours, or a 10-watt bulb for 5 hours.

Here’s the formula which can be used not only to figure out the cost of electricity for the grow lights for weed but also the cost per month:

Cost of Electricity x Number of Hours x (Watts / 1000) = Total Cost

Note: You need to divide the watts (W) by 1000 to plug it into the cost formula; this is to convert your number to kW so it plays nice with the kWh measurement you get from the electricity company.

Cost Electricity – $0.37/kWh (this is what we get charged for electricity, but it’s more than twice the average cost nationwide so you’d probably pay far less than this!)
Number Hours: 1,746 light hours (total hours with 250W HPS turned on)
Veg: 41 days of 18/6 = 738 hours
Flower: 84 days of 12/12 = 1,008 hours
Wattage/1000: I used a 250W HPS light. So, if I divide that by 1000 I get 0.250 kW for the formula.
Cost Electricity x Number of Hours x (Watts / 1000) = Total Cost
$0.37 kWh x 1,746 hours x 0.250 kW = $161

Do LED Grow Lights Use Less Electricity?
Short answer: Compared to HID grow lights, the short answer is YES, they do. However, the long answer is a little more complicated than that.

LED grow lights definitely have an advantage over HPS grow lights when it comes to electricity consumption. The running costs and durability of LED systems mean savings in other areas too, not just your electricity bill. Your heating bills will also go down and you won’t have to worry about replacing so may bulbs, either.

Are LED quantum boards worth it? 420 Guide for Growers

What’s a Quantum Board?
Quantum Board Grow Light is a large circuit board that has hundreds of mid-power LEDs mounted to it. The LEDs are connected together in series to form strings, and these strings are then combined in parallel configurations to make them compatible with common high-powered constant current drivers like the HLG 80-H-C, 240H-C, or 320-H-C series.

Benefits of DIY Quantum Boards

Upon looking around the grow light market there actually are some benefits to buying a DIY quantum board grow light kit compared to a pre-assembled quantum board grow light.

The first benefit is the cost is lower. The popular HLG 300 V2 comes with two boards, 578 Samsung LM301B diodes in total. Comparing the cost of that light to a DIY kit containing the same two boards and same LED type, you’d spend about 25-30% less on the DIY kit for the same product.

Quantum Board LED Grow Light are the newest addition to the cannabis grow light lineup (though at this point they’ve been around for years). LED grow lights seem to be the direction that grow lighting is headed in general. Aside from the allure of their newer technology, they are great at growing cannabis and they last a very long time compared to some other marijuana grow lights. In fact, the ones we recommend can last 100,000 hours; that’s over 14 years if you harvested every 3 months!

Do led grow lights work? 2020 Updated for Indoor Growers

What You Should Know About LED Grow Lights?

Energy-efficient LED grow lights are the lighting of the future of agriculture. They are not only economic in their use but they produce better plants as well, in comparison to all traditional lighting options. In the texts below you can read how the LED grow lights work, how they affect plant growth and what advantages the LED lights have over the thus far most widely used artifical lighting in agriculture – HPS grow lights.

LED grow lights work well when you use them as intended. That means utilizing the proper wattage output for your plants, hanging your light at the proper height, and giving your light a chance to rest after 18 hours of use.

With LEDs being a somewhat new technology, some old school growers may still be skeptical or curious if LED grow lights work. You don’t need to look far to determine the answer is a resounding yes.

Certainly, growing with LEDs require some changes in methodology. For instance, when using true “full spectrum” grow lights, more nutrients are consumed. This is caused by stimulation of more photoreceptors in plants. To further explain, photoreceptors are the trigger mechanisms in plants that start the process of photosynthesis, and each photoreceptor is color/frequency-dependent. True full spectrum LED systems fulfill spectrum shortages experienced with HPS technology. Anyone that grows with LEDs will at some time experience “cotton top,” or bleaching at the upper regions of their plants.  Increased nutrient delivery solves this issue.

  • LEDs are great for your plants. Ours are calibrated to meet the exacting needs of indoor plants, with a boost of blue light to stimulate stronger roots, enhance photosynthesis, and ensure peak growth. They also give off very little heat.
  • Though they cost a bit more up front, LEDs are super-efficient. They use half the electricity and last 5x longer than fluorescent bulbs.
  • They're earth-friendly. Mercury-free LED tubes won't shatter like glass, so fewer end up in the landfill.

Why does my rosin come out dark? 420 Guide for Cannabis Growers

If you’ve ever gone shopping for a cannabis extract you have probably seen how much variety there is. Light or dark extracts, clear or opaque, gooey or hard and brittle; there are a lot of options.

In fact, there are a variety of reasons to prefer darker concentrates.

Factors Affecting Rosin Clarity

  • Quality of the input material—higher quality input means higher quality output
  • Age of the input material—the best time to process material is right after it has finished drying and curing
  • Temperature at which the material is pressed—lower temperatures mean better clarity, but lower yields

Quality Starting Material
The most important factor that affects clarity when producing rosin is the quality of the material that is being pressed, whether it's squishing bubble hash, kief, or flower. For better or worse, what is considered “great” cannabis versus “average” is highly subjective and depends on what someone is looking for - the factors that determine “quality” can be vastly different from person to person, but a few stand out.

Terpene profile, trichome density, material density, and active cannabinoid content are all measures which can be employed to ascertain the quality of the starting material used. With that said, to simplify things, it is a quality in = quality out scenario. The better the genetics are, the more trichomes that are present, and the way the material was dried and cured all play huge factors in the clarity of rosin when it’s being extracted. The better the starting material, the better the resulting rosin will be in all measures (clarity, yield, and effects).

Turn Down the Temperature
“When people get black rosin coming off their plates it’s because their product is very old or their temperature is too high, and they’re burning it off. Or they leave it on the plate for way too long,” says Paul.

There are no hard-and-fast rules for the best temperature for rosin clarity, and professional rosin press machine producers all seem to be a little tired of the eternal question: ‘what temp, bro?’ But there are some guidelines for what temperatures to try first. Basically, start a little low for the best clarity.

How much CFM do I need for my grow tent? 2020 Updated

If you plan on having a closed environment (e.g., grow room, grow tent, etc...) then you need to properly ventilate your growing environment to ensure your plants perform at their best. Proper ventilation helps regulate humidity, exhaust the warm air that your grow lights and electronic equipment are producing, and provide relatively carbon-rich air for your plants to breathe.

Why is it necessary to ventilate my grow room?

There are two main reasons to keep fresh air flowing through your garden:
1) to evacuate excess heat generated by lamps, pumps, etc.
2) to provide fresh air (i.e. oxygen and carbon dioxide) to your plants while removing the excess humidity they generate.

A high-wattage indoor grow lights in a sealed, unventilated room will quickly raise the ambient temperature to 100+ degrees Fahrenheit.  At these temperatures, plants grow slowly (if at all) and can succumb to heat stress, or may simply die.  Barring issues caused by temperature, without proper ventilation, your plants will eventually use up the available carbon dioxide and oxygen, and increase the humidity in the grow tent for weeds (via transpiration) to unacceptable levels, leading to suffocation. A single properly placed and connected ventilation fan can easily prevent these issues.

Many websites give a blanket rule-of-thumb for CFM calculation that fails to take into account the uniqueness of each growing room.

Each inline duct fan has a rating that tells you how many cubic feet of air per minute (CFM) it will move. When dealing with above average temperatures you will want your fan to exchange the grow room air 3-5 times in one minute, so for a room that is 40 cubic feet, a fan that is capable of moving 120-200 cfm (cubic feet per minute) is recommended. If you only want to replace depleted levels of co2 and are growing in a closet using fluorescents, one room change per five minutes (divide room size by 5) will be adequate.

To calculate your room size, multiply Width by Length by Height, this will give you the CFM rating required for one room change per minute.

it’s a 10x10x7 feet tent that you’re dealing with. So, the fan size will be-

Fan Size= (10 feet x 10 feet x 7 feet)/1 Minute= 700 CFM

Placing Fans

Ideally you’d like a nice breeze surrounding the main canopy, which means you want air blowing above and under the plants.

Don’t point a strong fan directly at a plant, because too much wind can start to damage the leaves and stems.

After placing fans, check around the grow area to make sure that all parts get a slight breeze. If you feel stagnant air or a lack or breeze, you may want to adjust your fans.

Small oscillating fans are great for the grow space since they’re cheap and can be used to provide a nice gentle breeze to a relatively wide area without blowing on any one part too long.

With an estimation of 10 inches and a power rating of 780 CFM, this is something else that is ideal for enormous scale applications. In the event that you are a business cultivator, instead of an ace, this is a perfect decision.

The inline fan is made of steel with powder covering. With this, you can make sure that it will shock like sturdiness. Mounting regions are beginning at now combined into the unit, likewise as far-reaching direction. With the last referenced, the establishment should be possible in only a couple of minutes.

Finally, there is a five-year guarantee offered by the maker, which should beginning at now ensure that the quality will be difficult to compose.

Do LED grow lights take longer to flower? Guide for Cannabis Growers 2020

For the longest time, LED lights had trouble flowering plants.

No longer. Now, nothing beats the top LED lights for flowering. They have the perfect spectrum and get deep canopy penetration.

But that’s only the best. The rest are far less effective.

That’s why you need to make sure you get one of the few LED bloom grow lights that are actually up to the task. And ideally, ones that don’t cost thousands of dollars.

The first thing to remember is that when you are growing indoors, your plants do not have environmental feedback telling them which season it is and what they are supposed to do.

You have to tell your plants what season it is and the way to do it is with your lighting. In an outdoor setting, cannabis plants flower in the fall when days become shorter, the sun is lower in the sky and plants are signaled that the annual life cycle is coming to an end. After about 8 weeks of vegetative growth you have to mimic this change in the day cycle.

Your light schedule should be changed from 18 hours light to 12 hours light and 12 hours dark. Along with the change in the amount of time the light is on, you must also change the amount of red wavelengths the plants get. This is very easy to do with LED grow lights. All you need to do is add a LED with a high ratio of red wavelengths or all red wavelengths.

The flowering phase in Cannabis is triggered by the light/dark cycle. It is started by changing your cycle to 12 hours on and 12 hours off. During this phase, the plants will continue to grow vigorously and require even more light because of their size. Some growers switch to HPS grow light at this time because the plants need more red light than they did previously, but with Full Spectrum LED grow lights, the need to change sources is eliminated, saving grow light time, bother, and money as well as the need to control the large amount of heat produced by HPS lamps.

While it's possible to give plants too much light, it's not likely with an indoor grow room because you would likely overheat it and waste energy. Practically speaking, a minimum of 37 watts per square foot is a minimum, and 65-75 watts is your upper limit for our LED grow lights. Keep in mind you need more watts per square foot when using other lighting technologies such as HPS or MH, or even when using other LED grow lights that aren’t fully optimized with the Phyto-Genesis Spectrum.

Pros of LED lights
Cutting Edge & Custom Spectrum – LED grow light technology has arrived! You can now grow plants from seedling to flower with one light; with the flip of a switch, your light bands can be altered to provide the best light for vegetative and flowering stages.

Spider Farmer LED Quantum Board

Spider Farmer SF-1000 LED Grow Light with Samsung Chips LM301B & Dimmable MeanWell Driver Sunlike Full Spectrum Plants Lights for Indoor Veg and Flower Growing Lamp with 218pcs LEDs

These grow lights are more energy efficient than traditional LED grow lights. That’s partially due to the fact they don’t use cooling fans. Another reason is the LEDs they used in these designs are newer versions of diodes compared to grow lights that were designed years earlier but are still for sale today.

Spider Farmer’s 2.7 micromoles per Joule is at the very high end of efficiency compared to most other grow lights that typically fall between 1.5 and 2.4 uMol/Joule.

How to set up a grow tent? Guide for Indoor Growers 2020 Updated

Who Should Use Grow Tents?

Grow tents for weeds are designed to keep things simple for hobbyist cannabis growers. As convenient as grow tents are, they’re not designed for huge marijuana grow operations! But for someone who wants 1-5 ounces/month, a grow tent may be the best way to go!

Selecting a Grow Tent
The key to choosing the optimal grow tent size for your operation is going to depend completely on what you’d like to grow. The size of your tent will be one of the most important decisions you make. A tent that is too large will have you wasting money on parameters such as the electricity to power lights, fans, pumps, etc. An area that is too small will crowd plants, causing a battle for available nutrients and water, stunting their potential growth.

Remember that in selecting a tent, form follows function. There is no need to purchase a tent that has more ventilation holes that what you need or a tent that is incredibly larger than your growing operation.

Your grow light is what gives your plants energy for processing the nutrients you’re giving them. They’re one of the most important pieces of equipment you’ll buy, so you have to make sure you choose a grow light that is suitable to your grow tent.

Give them too much light and you’ll end up needing extra ventilation to keep the heat out and will risk burning the plants if they get too close, on the other hand too little light and you’ll have an under-performing garden.

The truth is that there is a sweet spot for grow lights and we should try to be as close as we can to it at any time!

If you’re using an HID grow light a good rule of thumb is that you’ll need roughly 45-70 watts per square feet of tent space. This means that the ideal wattage of HID grow light for a 3 by 3 foot tent would be anywhere from 400 to 600 Watts.

How to set up a grow tent | Extractor Fan?

Once you’ve set the tent up, the first thing that you’ll want to do is set up the extractor and intake fans. First, you have to install the right cables to your extractor and intake fan, as they usually come without the cables attached. Next, you’ll need to attach the extractor to a frame that will allow you to attach it to the inside of your grow tent. Then, attach the frame (and attached extractor fan) to the upper bars in your grow tent using strong clamps or the ropes that come with the grow tent. Once it’s set up, test it to make sure it’s working.

When it comes to the intake fan, you’ll need to use a stretch of flexible aluminum ducting big enough to be able to take in enough fresh air for your plants. Make sure it’s in a straight line.

Best Complete Grow Tent Kits
When it comes to a grow tent setup for beginners, one of the best options can be to start with a grow tent kit. These complete grow tent setups include everything you need to get started in indoor growing. While advanced indoor gardeners will prefer to hand pick each element of their grow tent setup, a grow tent kit can take the overwhelm away from the beginners’ decision-making process.

What temp should my grow room be during flowering? Full Guide for 420 Growers

Getting the temperature right in your indoor grow tent is extremely important as a grower because it affects your plant's ability to photosynthesize and grow.

The light-independent reactions of photosynthesis take place in the stroma—fluid surrounding the grana (stacks of thylakoids) in chloroplasts. These reactions are catalyzed by specific enzymes which work best at certain temperatures. Hence, plants growing in ideal temperatures will photosynthesize faster than plants grown in temperatures that are too high/low.

In general cannabis plants grow best at temperatures between 20–30°C (70–85°F) during the day. Growers tend to agree that the ideal temperature is around 25°C (or roughly 75°F). At night, cannabis plants like slightly cooler temperatures of roughly 17-20°C (62-68°F).

IDEAL RANGES FOR TEMP AND RH
Cannabis grows best when provided with ideal temperatures and humidity levels for each phase of growth. Staying within these limits is the challenge facing the summertime grower.

Flowering
During flowering, low humidity is important. Decrease to 40–50% RH. Over 60% can mean slowed growth and pathogen risks.
Room temperature with lights on should be 20–26°C. Lights off, 16–22°C. The goal is to imitate autumn, so temps need to be kept low.
Late Flowering
During late flowering, improvements to overall quality can be achieved by keeping temps and humidity as low as possible. Humidity under 40% RH is ideal.

Room temperature with lights on should be 18–24°C. Increase the difference between day/night temps by up to 10°C for even better results.

Too Low (Cold) Temps
Colder temps will tend to slow down growth. Temps lower than 60°F (15°C) tend to upset plant growth, and freezing temperatures will shock or even kill a cannabis plant. Some plants continue growing in the cold without signs of stress, but they often don’t yield as well as they should given the amount of light they receive.

Plants are also more susceptible to certain types of mold when it’s cool, especially if it’s damp, too. Mold sometimes occurs after frost melts and gets water all over your plants.

Colder temps and significant temperature fluctuations contribute to the over-purpling of leaves and can also reduce photosynthesis.

Too Hot Temps
When it’s too hot, cannabis can turn into a breeding ground for various afflictions and insects. While the heat does not necessarily kill the plant, it can cause it to be unhealthy. Instead of boasting a cream-colored hue, roots may turn brown and produce a slimy and mushy texture as it rots.

Because of root decay, the plant grows slowly. It concentrates on stretching while its leaves wilt and curl. Meanwhile, its tips suffer from a burn. As a result of its debility, it falls victim to spider mites that suck up essential nutrients and leave a range of orange, yellow, and white speckles.

We all want the most fragrant cannabis, but that fragrance can be a liability if you’re traveling outside your home. Whether you’re looking for something stylish, practical, compact, or lockable, there’s a stash bag for every type of consumer.

What Are the Best Weed Containers For Storing Your Herb?

Herb Guard UltraViolet Glass Jar

The herb Guard is another smaller sized smell proof container that resembles a container of hair gel. The container’s was built from the ground up for the stoner on the go.

A lot of these containers are starting to all look pretty similar, I bet. What I can say about this one is that it is 95% effective for smell elimination but does tend to keep bud fresher than other alternatives on the list.

The Herb Guard’s solid color and screw top lid work great, no doubt. They are a little cheaper than other alternatives on this list and I found my bud to stay intact very well with Herb Guard .

This affordable and convenient airtight multi-use vacuum seal portable storage container for dry goods, good, and herbs and cannabis is an irreplaceble item on every kitchen.

Your goods will be saved for longer and will not lose its flavor and smell.

Stand-out features

  • Convenient size
  • Available for travel
  • Moisture free and recyclable
  • Comes in many different colors

Why Weed Storage Matters:
If you store your cannabis in an environment with too much moisture, it can develop mold. (For anyone who grows cannabis, this can be a nightmare scenario.)

Then again, if it gets too dried out, you'll lose all the flavor and aroma.

Properly curing your cannabis is all about letting it dry slowly.

Of course, if you have kids in the house, proper weed storage matters for obvious reasons. Check out the ECO Farm Weed Containers with locks included above!

Can LED grow lights burn plants? 420 Guides

When it comes to using LED grow lights for cannabis, it's important to keep the lights the correct distance from your plants to prevent bud burning and/or bleaching.

Many LEDs work best when kept around 18" or more from the top of the plant, but it's important to ask the manufacturer about the specific LED grow light model since each one is different from each other. The size of the LED bulbs, the way the lenses are made, and the angle the lamp directs light downward all make a big difference on how far your cannabis plants need to be without experiencing "sun burn" from LEDs.

When the light's too intense for your plants it will either cause heat stress or will bleach them with light. Strong grow lights will bleach and/or burn the tops of your leaves, while lights like strong LED grow lights may only bleach your leaves, so it’s important to understand what’s happening to your plants when it comes to these issues. Now, what we should note first is that light bleaching or burning may look like nitrogen deficiencies.

The key difference between the two is that light burn or bleaching will occur on the leaves of the plant closest to the light, whereas a nitrogen deficiency is something you’ll see from top to bottom. A burned and bleached plant will also have wilted and discolored top leaves that are hard to pluck, whereas a deficiency will make the leaves simply fall off. Light Bleaching- If you use LED’s you may not stress your plants from heat, but hanging your LED’s too close to your plants will bleach your leaves. If you let it go on longer, it’ll eventually start bleaching fruits and flowers, which will result in an underwhelming yield.

How Close Should LED Grow Lights Be to Plants?
Indoor grow lights of different power ratings will perform best at different distances. Which LED grow lights are the best for my space? The 240 Watt LED Grow Light is for 2-4 mature plants, with a distance of 12-24 inches from the top of the canopy. The larger 450 Watt LED Grow Light is for 4-8 mature plants, with a distance of 14-30 inches from the plant canopy. These lights also work well for mother plants and cloning.  Higher wattage lights such as the 600 Watt LED Grow Light and the 900 Watt LED Grow Light have a distance range of 16-36 inches from the top of the canopy.

Cannabis grow lights do not emit a great amount of heat like MH/HPS grow lights. LED lights allow for easier temperature control in the grow space and in the space immediately below the lights, eliminating the risk of burning plants with the lights. The ambient room temperature can be 82 degrees instead of the lower temperatures needed to avoid burning plants with HPS bulbs.

So, Are LED Lights The Best For Indoor Growing?
As you can tell, there are definitely some advantages to going with an LED system, but whether they’re the best choice for indoor growing depends on a few factors. For a lot of growers, the low temperature, efficiency, lifespan, size and spectrum of LEDs make them ideal for indoor grows. Other growers, typically those running large-scale operations, prefer HID lights because they provide the most intense light. Of course, HIDs come with their own challenges — they consume way more energy than LEDs, and also force the grower to invest in additional equipment, like protective hoods and exhaust fans. But if your main goal is to maximize the quantity of crops that your garden produces, then HID grow light is probably the way to go.

How to choose the right size grow tent?
Most beginner growers should plan on at least 2 square feet per plant.  Small growers may have up to 2 plants growing at a time. They need an indoor grow tent that’s at least 2 feet by 2 feet for total 4 square feet. It may look too big when they are seedlings but adult plants will fill up that space.

Depending on your grow technique and your attention to pruning and training the plants, you can fit 4-6 mature plants into a 4 by 4-foot tent. If you only use a tent for seedlings, you can pack 16 of them in a 4×4 grow tent.

If you have more than 6 mature plants planned for the future, you’ll need at least a 5 by 5-foot tent.

Is a tent too conspicuous for your circumstances? Consider a grow box. For small spaces and discreet home growing they can be an ideal solution.  You can even build your own grow box, although that is a big project and maybe more expensive than buying a complete system.

How do I set up a T5 grow light for flowering stage? Guides for 420 Growers

The best height for a T5 grow light is about 6-8 in. above the plants, but you should increase that gap to 12 in. if your plants don’t like heat or they are in the seedling growth stage. If the T5 fixtures are at this height, the light from the bulbs will be intense enough and bright enough for plants, but the heat won’t be able to damage your plants. Some plants need less-intense light, so just monitor your plants and see what works for your indoor garden set-up.

You are almost ready to go—all that’s left is figuring out the right light cycles, and then you can turn on your lights and start growing. A light cycle refers to how many hours you keep the lights turned on for and for how many hours you leave your plants in the dark. Light cycles are used to simulate night and day. Outdoor plants get a certain amount of hours of light and dark to grow properly, and you need to simulate these conditions indoors, too.
