How to hang LED grow lights? 420 Guide

A possibly obvious topic to some, but eye-opening to others. We’ve seen all types of unique grows. Each of us has our own conditions, limitations, and possibilities to structure our grow space. Whether we grow cannabis, vegetables, or indoor plants.

How Close Should LED Grow Lights Be to Plants?
Indoor grow lights of different power ratings will perform best at different distances. Which LED grow lights are the best for my space? The 240 Watt LED Grow Light is for 2-4 mature plants, with a distance of 12-24 inches from the top of the canopy. The larger 450 Watt LED Grow Light is for 4-8 mature plants, with a distance of 14-30 inches from the plant canopy. These lights also work well for mother plants and cloning.  Higher wattage lights such as the 600 Watt LED Grow Light and the 900 Watt LED Grow Light have a distance range of 16-36 inches from the top of the canopy.

For an area that measures larger, you would need several lights that will be the same equivalent.

The Right Height to Hang Your Grow Lights
You also need to consider the height at which you should be hanging your grow lights. Different types of bulbs are going to give off more heat, and you need to make sure that you have plenty of space between the plants and the bulb, so they do not burn.

A good rule of thumb is to place the less powerful HID grow light kits about 24” to 36” above the plants. For more powerful HID systems, you will want to have them between 48” and 62” above the plants.

Those who are using fluorescent grow lights can keep them closer to the plants. They can be around five inches or so away from the plants. With led grow lights for grow tent, you can have them between 5” and 20” away.
